General surgeries like all surface swellings can be removed under local, regional, spinal or general anesthesia depending on the size and location. Most of these procedures are daycare, one can go home immediately. Surgeries include removal of a lymph node, sebaceous cyst, dermoid cyst, wart, papilloma, ganglion and surface lipomas. Surgeries on the breast like fibroadenomas, cancers, nipple discharge are routinely done after proper evaluation. Simple swellings of the thyroid like goiters & adenomas as well as cancer of the thyroid needs removal of half or whole of the organ. But for the close proximity of the para thyroid glands and recurrent laryngeal nerves, these surgeries should be performed by experienced hands.
